The easiest way to get a summa of modern society is to closely inspect what adorns the shelves of its pharmacies. What should be there? Little. A happy society has no need of Tylenol™ or Aspirin™, because there's nothing to cause it headaches; a happy society has no need of weight-loss pills because it's comfortable with its appearance. But what we find in our society is rows upon rows of these products, marketed correctly, telling us that the more we use them, the happier we'll be. We're told that being overweight is wrong and shameful, and that being skinny is an ideal. That's the point at which we begin to see the decay of modern society - when we start looking for ideals instead of ideas.
